Shayna Take (& Kaitlyn Crawford)'s Grand Canyon Photo Journal
Period 1, 5/4/10,
Day One!
On the day of the trip I got up at 4 ‘o’clock in the morning, took a shower, got ready, had breakfast, and headed out the door. I arrived at the school on time and dropped off my suitcase. My partner was Kaitlyn Crawford - she's the blond haired girl on the left) *Yaaawn* I was so tired… We sat together near the front end of a very long bus.
Katie on the Bus!
First Two Stops
Our first break in driving was to switch out bus drivers. The next stop was a rest stop for a bathroom break.
Bus Reptiles!
On the drive, our guide Allen brought out some reptiles! There were two types of chuckwallas, an iguana, a gecko, and a king snake!
Lucky for us, the king snake didn't bite.
Chuckwalla!
Gecko!
King Snake!
Iguana!
On Our Way!
We saw some snow when we left the restaurant we’d gone to for lunch. By that time we were on our second movie, one about the Grand Canyon. The movie itself was slightly dull. I was hoping it would snow while we hiked. Rain wouldn’t be so fun. It would make the path slippery, and we’d get wet!
Scenery on the drive!
Clouds! Rain or Snow?
Snow! Yaay!
More Clouds!
Hike, Hike!
When we began the hike we saw amazing views! Even though it was snowing, there were healthy plants on the trail. One of the first places we went had limestone embedded with shells, sponges, and other sea items. There was a dirt trail below us that looked so tiny, with little ant people! The hike was a very long one. After the hike we went to the lodge cafeteria and ate dinner. Then we traveled to and slept at our hotel.

The Dirt Trail!
Good morning!
We woke up, got re-packed, put our bags in the bus, and had breakfast! Once everyone had their fill we headed off! (We almost ate ALL the fruit loops!) There was an excellent view from where our bus was parked.
Yummy Hotel Breakfast!
The Bus's Great View
On the river!
We went to the Glenn Canyon Dam and rode on a boat. There was a small little waterfall from a crack, but no really big ones. The dark spots on the rock walls are Desert Varnish, a color made from bacteria. If you look you might see a lady on a swing. Then we docked on a beach to look at petroglyphs. There were antelopes, goats, stairs, and different patterns. Then we cast off and went down the river, we even raced boats a few times!
The Small Waterfall!
A Nest Of Birds!

What Could The Pictures Mean?
Wutpaki!
The next place we went was Wutpaki. There were Indian houses, ballcourts, and an ampitheater!
The Indian Rock-Mansion!
We Could Hear The Faraway People In The Amphitheater Just Fine!
Sunset Crater Hike!
The next place we visited was the cinder-cone volcano Sunset Crater. There was ʻAʻā lava all over the place, so we had to be careful! It was sharp and could scrape up your skin. There were trees and plants growing through the lava. We learned about the volcano. Near the end we found a cave that was ice-cold!
Ahah Lava.
Fuzzy Plants!
Trees And Lava.
Where The Lava Came Out!
The Icy-Cold Cave!
The Rest of Our Trip.
After Sunset Crater we went to another viewing point of the Grand Canyon. We set out again, stopped at a mall to eat, then we rode all the way home. This concludes my photo journal. Thanks for looking!
